Francis X. Galdi was born on April 15, 1930. He graduated from Xavier high School in New York City in 1947. Galdi received an A.B in History and Government from Georgetown University in 1951. He then earned a J.D. from Fordham University Law School in 1954 and was admitted to practice law in the state of New York in October 1955.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served until he was discharged in 1956
From 1956 to 1960, he was in private practice as an attorney. He then became Assistant Corporate Counsel for the New York City Law Department from 1960 until 1967. In 1967, he obtained a Court Attorney position at the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department.
Galdi was promoted to Deputy Clerk of the Court in 1979. Galdi was appointed Clerk of the Court for the Appellate Division, First Department by Presiding Justice Francis T. Murphy in 1989. In 1992, Francis Galdi received the Bernard Botein medal for “outstanding contributions to the administration of justice.” He retired from his Clerk position in 1994 but continued to work as an attorney in private practice into his 80s.
He was a member of numerous organizations including the Bronx County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Kiwanis International, National Italo-American War Veterans, Inc., Fordham Alumni, Georgetown Alumni, Xavier H. S. Alumni, St. Theresa Holy Name Society, Parents' Guild and Ushers' Association. Galdi also served as President of the Columbian Lawyers Association of the First Judicial Department.
Francis Galdi was married and had three children.
