Clerk of the Court

Maria T. Fasulo began her college studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, after which she continued her studies at the City University of New York at Brooklyn College where she earned a B.A. degree, cum laude, in 1978. Upon graduation, she joined the Bank of New York, formerly known as The Irving Trust Company, as a management trainee and shortly thereafter, began part-time evening studies in the M.B.A. program at Bernard M. Baruch College (“Baruch”). In 1981, she joined JPMorgan Chase Bank (“Chase”) in the Corporate Controller’s Department where she attained the position of Vice President in Financial Management Information Systems and then, in 1991, the Corporate Human Resources Department where she served until January 1996 as the Vice President and Director of Human Resources Management Information Systems. During her tenure at Chase, she earned her M.B.A. degree from Baruch in 1982 and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School in 1995.

At Brooklyn Law School, Ms. Fasulo won the Regina and Joseph Crea Memorial Scholarship after her first year, was on the Dean’s List 1991-1995, and was an active member of the Moot Court Honor Society where she served as the Secretary of its Evening Division in the 1993-1994 term and earned a place in the semi-finals of the John Marshall Law School Information and Privacy Law national moot court competition and an award for second best brief. Ms. Fasulo was admitted to the New York State and New Jersey Bars in 1996 when she began her legal career at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, and Flom as a real estate associate. Thereafter, Ms. Fasulo continued her real estate practice at several other law firms, including Atlanta-based King & Spalding specializing in large corporate real estate financing, leasing, and development transactions.

In 2002, Ms. Fasulo joined the Appellate Division, Second Department, in the Law Department, as a court attorney, and in 2004, joined the Court’s Decision Department as an editor. In 2005, Ms. Fasulo served as the Principal Law Clerk to former Associate Justice Peter B. Skelos for five years until her appointment in 2010 as an Associate Deputy Clerk of the Court. In 2013, Ms. Fasulo was promoted to Deputy Clerk of the Court, and in 2021, began to serve as the Acting Clerk of the Court. Ms. Fasulo has been a member of the New York State Bar Association since 1996 and the Columbian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Association, and the JPMorgan Chase Alumni Association.
