After the Hearing in Family Court
The judge may not make a decision right away. It may take several hearings before the judge makes a decision. A court's decision is called an Order. The Order tells both sides what is expected of them and it must be obeyed. Before you leave court, make sure that you understand exactly what is expected of you. Make copies of the Order and keep them in a safe place. If you get an Order of Protection, you may want to keep it on you at all times.
Violation of an Order
Orders must be followed. If the Order is not followed, then the person is in violation of the Order. A Petition for Violation of an Order can be filed against the person who is not following the Order.
Appealing an Order
After the final decision has been made and an Order has been issued, both sides has the right to "appeal" the judge's decision. This mean that you can ask a higher court to review the evidence and what was said during the hearing.
