23rd Anniversary Of September 11, 2001
For more than two decades, the New York State Unified Court System (UCS) has paid annual tribute to the victims of the attacks of Sept. 11. Three members of the UCS court officer corps were lost on that horrific day and the wounds have remained fresh though years have passed. Captain William Harry Thompson, Sergeant Thomas Jurgens, and Sergeant Mitchel Wallace, who perished trying to save others at the World Trade Center, will always be remembered for their selfless sacrifice. The UCS pauses each September in collective remembrance of its court officers and all of the first responders who took part in the 9/11 rescue efforts, memorializing their stories and experiences while remaining forever in their debt. This September 11 Homepage highlights the commemorative events hosted by the New York State Courts and features interviews with some of the courts’ 9/11 first responders.
