Guide to NY Evidence

“In recognition of the absence of a New York statutory code of evidence, the objective of the Guide to NY Evidence [GNYE] is to bring together in one place, for the benefit of the bench and bar, New York’s existing statutory and common law rules of evidence, setting forth each rule with a note on the sources for that rule. . . . The GNYE is not intended to alter the existing law of New York evidence and shall not be construed as doing so or as precluding change in the law when appropriate.” GNYE rule 1.02, Purpose and Construction.

The Committee wishes to acknowledge, with thanks, the editorial assistance of State Reporter Thomas J.K. Smith, and former State Reporters Cara J. Brousseau and William J. Hooks, and the members of the Law Reporting Bureau.
