The NYS Office of Court Administration’s (OCA) Criminal History Record Search (CHRS) online application called “Direct Access” is available for business entities and corporations on a 24/7 basis. Use of this application requires an ID, Password and a required weekly minimum number of searches.

Direct Access allows users to key the individual(s) full Name and DOB, both of which are required, and start the initial phase of the search process. Background checks for companies are also part of the CHRS program. CHRS results are verified, reviewed, amended, if necessary, and emailed to our customers with a typical turnaround time of four to five hours.

Procedures for utilizing Direct Access are:

• Enter User ID and Password.
• Indicate total number of searches (no more than 50 searches per order)
• Enter Full Name and Date of Birth of individual(s) you want searched. The search mechanism is based on finding an exact match of Name and DOB as keyed by the customer.
• Print "Search Request Confirmation" page which provides you with a receipt reflecting number of searches submitted, cost, and job number.
• OCA/CHRS personnel reviews data and email results with a typical turnaround time of approximately four to five hours.
• Cut off time for same day completion is 1:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Currently “Direct Access” customers experience same day or early next day results.
• Direct Access provides multiple user capability.
• A monthly invoice is sent the first week of each month reflecting the number of searches and cost.
