Opinion:

            A judge inquires whether it is proper to attend a ceremony honoring public officials of Italian-American heritage who have recently been elected to public office.

            As reported by the judge, the event is not sponsored by a political organization, nor is it partisan in any way. It appears to be simply a cultural celebration. Thus, the event is not a "political gathering" (22 NYCRR 100.5(A)[1][g],) and the judge may attend.
