Opinion:

            A Supreme Court justice has been invited to serve on the Executive Committee of a Youth Court which is sponsored by a village within the judge's district and which is funded by the village and a New York State Division for Youth grant. The judge asks if there are any rules which would prohibit service on the committee.

            This Committee has previously held that a Family Court judge may participate in the planning and development of a youth court under the auspices of a local youth board and the United States Attorney's office. Opinion 93-102 (Vol. XI). The fact that this inquirer is a Supreme Court justice and that this youth court is sponsored by a different government entity than in Opinion 93-102 are of no significance. The judge, however, should exercise caution so that specific activities on behalf of the Executive Committee and the Youth Court do not violate limitations articulated in the rules or statutes.
