         This will acknowledge receipt of your inquiry (97-05) concerning the practice of law by your law firm in the court in which you may be appointed Acting City Court Judge and your continued service on the Board of Directors of a local bank.

         Judiciary Law 212(1)(i) and 22 NYCRR Part 101 of the rules of the Chief Administrator restrict the role of the Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics to advising judges and justices of the Unified Court System and, in limited instances, to candidates for election to judicial office. Since you are not currently a judge nor a candidate for election to judicial office, we are, therefore, not able to answer your inquiry.
