Digest:         A judge may serve on the Board of Directors of a local Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Governors of a high school alumni association, but may not personally engage in public fund-raising on behalf of either organization.

Rule:            22 NYCRR 100.5(b)(2)

Opinion:

         A recently elected Town Justice asks whether he/she may serve on the Board of Directors of the local Chamber of Commerce and on a high school Board of Governors.

         In the opinion of the Committee, such service is ethically permissible, but the judge may not personally engage in public fund-raising for either group.
