Opinion 91-136
October 31, 1991
Digest: A judge may accept an attorney’s invitation to attend the opening of the attorney’s new law office.
Rules: 22 NYCRR §100.2.
Opinion:
A judge asks whether it is proper to accept an attorney’s invitation to attend the opening of the attorney’s new law office. The attorney has cases before the judge.
Section 100.2 of the Rules of the Chief Administrator requires judges to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety. Here, however, the judge may accept the attorney’s invitation as ordinary social hospitality.
