Opinion 90-36
March 21, 1990
Hon.
Dear Judge
The Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, at its meeting of March 1, 1990, considered your inquiry (90-36), dated February 23, 1990, received at this office on February 27, 1990, concerning ethical problems arising with respect to advising pro se litigants who appear before you. The committee believes that you are correct that judges may not give legal advice to any litigants, including pro se litigants, and that pro se litigants should be advised that they should seek legal advice from an attorney.
Very truly yours,
Samuel J. Silverman
Chair
