Dear Judge

         The Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, at its meeting of December 11, 1990, considered your inquiry (90-193) dated November 29, 1990, concerning the propriety of making a political contribution from excess campaign funds. This Committee has previously found that unexpended campaign funds may not be donated to a political party. See Opinion 87-02, a copy of which is enclosed, and Election Law §17-162.
