Opinion 88-152

March 16, 1989

The Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, at its meeting on February 24, 1989, considered your inquiry (88-152) of January 5, 1989, concerning the propriety of a law firm which regularly appears in your court, hiring your daughter, a college student, to work temporarily on a part-time basis in the firm as a legal assistant on matters disassociated from actions pending in your court.

The Committee concluded that there is no problem in your daughter commencing work in the manner indicated in your letter, provided that, during the period of your daughter’s employment by the firm, you disclose to all parties on the record the fact of her employment, whenever any member of the firm appears in a matter in your court.

                                                                     Very truly yours,

                                                                     Samuel J. Silverman, Chair
