Please Note: This opinion has been overruled or modified by Joint Opinion 17-163/18-03/18-21, to the extent it prohibits a full-time judge from participating in a commercially produced documentary without compensation.

Dear Justice:

         This responds to your inquiry (09-182) asking the Committee whether you may participate in a videotaped interview to be used as part of a documentary that would accompany a criminal justice textbook. The company producing the book provides teaching and research materials for academic, professional and library markets.

          A full-time judge should not participate in an educational video produced by a for-profit organization. Enclosed, for your convenience, is Opinion 01-86 which addresses this issue.
