Dear Judge:

         This responds to your inquiry (08-92) about whether you may write a letter in support of nominating a former colleague for a professional award.

         In Opinion 02-118, the Advisory Committee concluded that a judge could write a letter to support a local bar association’s nomination of an attorney for a New York State Bar Association award. Similarly, there is no prohibition against your writing a letter to support the nomination of your former colleague.

         I have enclosed a copy of Opinion 02-118 for your convenience.
