Dear Justice :

         The Committee has received your inquiry dated May 29, 2008 in which you ask if you may serve on the [ ]Law School class of 1978 reunion committee and whether you may actively participate in the solicitation of donations for the benefit of the law school.

         The Rules Governing Judicial Conduct permit you to serve on the committee, but prohibit you from personally participating in fund-raising activities (see 22 NYCRR 100.4[C][3][b][I]). Enclosed, for your convenience, are the Committee’s prior Opinions 07-179 and 95-07 and Joint Opinion 92-70/92-84, which address this issue.
