Presiding Justice Elizabeth A. Garry receives Marilyn R. Menge Award

Presiding Justice Elizabeth A. Garry was presented with the Marilyn R. Menge Award by the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) at WBASNY's 2018 Annual Convention. The Menge Award is bestowed upon an outstanding member of WBASNY who has made valuable and significant contributions to a chapter or the statewide organization. The Award is named in honor of the late Marilyn Menge, a founding member of the Capital District Women's Bar Association and a former Vice President of WBASNY whose work ensured the organization's early success.

This Honor came in recognition of Presiding Justice Garry's efforts as a founding member of WBASNY's Del-Chen-O Chapter. In addition to her service to WBASNY, Presiding Justice Garry has served on a number of other civic and professional associations, including as Chair and Commissioner of the Richard C. Failla LGBTQ Commission of the New York Courts, the Association of Justices of Supreme Court of New York, the New York State Bar Association Committee on Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction and as Director of the International Association of LGBTQ Judges. A graduate of Albany Law School, Presiding Justice Garry began her legal career as Confidential Law Clerk to the Hon. Irad S. Ingraham, Justice of the Supreme Court and thereafter worked for more than a decade in private practice. She was twice elected Town Justice in the Town of New Berlin before being elected as Supreme Court Justice for the Sixth Judicial District in 2006. She was appointed to the Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department in March 2009 and was appointed the 16th Presiding Justice of this Court by Governor Andrew Cuomo in January 2018.
