Possession of Marijuana

Smoking marijuana in public, holding it out in the open, or possession of more than 25 grams used to be a misdemeanor crime under the law (Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 5th Degree). If you were convicted of a misdemeanor under PL 221.10 or a violation under PL 221.05, in the past, your crimes are now treated as if they never happened. This is called expungement.

Today, possession of smaller amounts of marijuana is a violation, punishable by a fine. If you are convicted of a marijuana violation your record will be automatically expunged after the case is over. Visit the links below to learn about the decriminalization of marijuana.
