Home Clerkship Opportunities
Associate Judge Caitlin Halligan hires personal law clerks for one-year clerkships. Judge Halligan’s home chambers are in Manhattan; law clerks are required to travel to Albany when the Court of Appeals is in session.
Judge Halligan is accepting applications for the 2026-2027 term, to begin in the summer of 2026. She will typically not begin the process of evaluating applications until May 1 of the year before the clerkship is to begin, with the aim of interviewing candidates in June. Applicants who wish to be considered for alternative terms (e.g., 2027-2028) may indicate that in an initial application but should send an updated resume and cover letter a year later if they are not selected for the first year of application and remain interested.
Judge Halligan also hires current law students as part-time, volunteer interns. Applicants in their third year of law school are strongly preferred. Interns will work in person at Judge Halligan’s home chambers in Manhattan and will not be required to travel to Albany. Judge Halligan is accepting applications for the Fall 2024 and the Spring 2025 semesters. Applicants should specify in their cover letters the term or terms for which they are applying.
Applications for either position must include a current resume and law school transcript, a writing sample, and two letters of recommendation from law professors or legal employers. If possible, please submit a writing sample that has not been edited, or has been only minimally edited, by others.
Complete applications should be emailed to halliganchambers@nycourts.gov or mailed to: Hon. Caitlin J. Halligan, New York Court of Appeals, 20 Eagle Street, Albany, NY 12207.
