CALR / Lexis / Westlaw

The Supreme Court Law Library in Queens County is equipped with up-to-date CALR/Lexis/Westlaw/Internet facilities. There are four separate computer areas in the law library.

1. the north end of the main reading room
2. the mezzanine
3. the CourtHelp center
4. the south end of the main reading room

The north and south ends of the reading room offer three Dell personal computers and the Mezzanine has one Dell PC with a printer. The mezzanine PC is reserved for UCS personnel. There is a learning/training center for CD-ROM, located downstairs in the main reading room adjacent to the Index table. The learning center is equipped with one personal computer. All public computers are available for use by library patrons during regular library hours.

Westlaw and Lexis training classes are held in the library periodically throughout the year. Training classes are for UCS personnel only. Contact Andrew Tschinkel at atschink@nycourts.gov to arrange for CALR training. Off site training is also available at the Westlaw training centers in Manhattan and Old Westbury. This center is located in the Midtown section of New York City between 44th and 45th Streets close to the Grand Central Terminal. From Grand Central Station: Take the Vanderbilt Ave. exit. Walk straight ahead two blocks to Fifth Ave., then turn right and walk a few yards up the block. From Port Authority: Take the cross-town bus on 42nd St. to 5th Ave. Walk north 2 1/2 blocks. We are on the left side of the street. From Penn Station Take the Times Square shuttle to Grand Central. Exit at 42nd Street and take a right onto Fifth Avenue. Walk two blocks to 44th Street and we are on the left side of Fifth Avenue. Driving from the East Side Take the 42nd Street exit off of the FDR. Drive west past 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Lexington Avenues, and past Grand Central Station on your right. Take the next right onto Vanderbilt Avenue, then turn left onto 43rd Street. Turn right onto Madison Avenue and then right.

All librarians will assist UCS personnel with computer training and searches when requested.

Individual Lexis, Westlaw, ID's and passwords are assigned to UCS personnel as required.

Requests for additional Westlaw and Lexis passwords should be made via GroupWise to the Library Staff as required. Passwords are authorized by the Office of Court Administration, through a request by the library staff. Judicial interns should request an individual Westlaw/ Lexis password from the library staff. Interns should not use the Judge's password. Please send your request for Intern passwords to Mr. Tschinkel, via GroupWise, with your request please include the Intern's name, the Judges' name, courthouse location, and the starting and ending date of the internship.
