As part of recent efforts to recognize important, yet unsung contributions to civil rights in the New York court system, New York attorneys had a unique opportunity in October 2021 to join a discussion entitled, “Equal Justice in the Courts: Celebrating the Legacy of Franklin H. Williams.”
The forum was hosted at the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in collaboration with the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission as part of the Howard Glickstein Civil Rights and Public Policy Lecture and offered continuing legal education credits for attendees.
Dean Elena B. Langan opened the lecture with a welcome and an introduction to Dean Emeritus Howard Glickstein. The two-panel program was moderated by Tiffany C. Graham, Esq., Associate Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion at Touro Law.
The first panel featured a discussion of the film, “A Bridge to Justice: The Life of Franklin H. Williams,” which was produced by the Office of Court Administration with financial assistance from the NYS Bar Foundation and Historical Society of the NY Courts. The first panel speakers were John Caher, Film Producer and Senior Advisor for Strategic and Technical Communications for NYS Courts; Joyce Y. Hartsfield, Film Producer and former Executive Director of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission; Hon. Sol Wachtler, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Constitutional Law and the First Amendment; and Edna Wells Handy, Attorney, First Executive Director, Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission.
