Honoring the Memory and Accomplishments of
Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Judges of the Eighth Judicial District gathered outside of Old County Hall in Downtown Buffalo to honor the memory and accomplishments of Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.

Keynote address from Hon. Shirley Troutman, Associate Justice, Appellate Division, Fourth Department.

On Friday, September 25, 2020, the Judges of the Eighth Judicial District gathered outside of Old County Hall in Downtown Buffalo to honor the memory and accomplishments of Hon. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, who recently passed away. Justice Ginsburg was appointed to the United States Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1993. She was the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court and served more than 27 years.

The program included remarks from Hon. Paula L. Feroleto, Administrative Judge of the Eighth Judicial District, and a keynote address from Hon. Shirley Troutman, Associate Justice, Appellate Division, Fourth Department, who is also President Elect of the National Women Judges Association, New York Chapter. Justice Ginsburg was remembered for her advocacy for gender equality and her consistent commitment to rendering justice in a manner that applied equally to all persons. Noting that Justice Ginsburg had “paved the way for all women,” Judge Troutman emphasized that her sacrifices “have enriched not only the fabric of the legal profession but this nation.” Justice Ginsburg “lived a life that can truly be measured by her righteous relentless fight to ensure equal protection under the law for all,” said Judge Troutman. Hon. Lenora Foote-Beavers and Hon. Mark A. Montour, Commissioners of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission, were also in attendance to recognize Justice Ginsburg for her work and contributions to society.
