On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Queens Supreme Court joined P.S. 219 and the Kennedy King Elementary School to celebrate the school’s Black History Month program. The students, consisting of third, fourth and fifth graders (total of 183 students), traveled to Queens Supreme Court to meet and learn about the courts and career options in the court system. They were hosted by Justice Pam Jackman Brown. The school’s Black History Month program began a few years ago as a partnership between Justice Jack- man Brown, Assistant Principal Joycelyn Richards Taylor and Principal Winsome Smith (PS 219). Judges were encouraged to visit the school. In 2019, Mrs. Taylor enhanced the program by requesting that the students visit the courthouse in Queens for a real time experience. Mrs. Taylor passed away a few months ago. However, the program continues in her honor and with the assistance and enthusiasm of Deputy Chief Administrative Judge George Silver, Justice Marguerite Grays, Justice Ulysses Leverett, Justice Mojgan Lancman, Chief Clerk Tamara Kersh, Major Ernest Owens, Law Clerks Samantha McDowall, Sharon Adams, Nicole MacGregor-Mundy, Court Clerk Kaye Reno, Court Reporter Ranee Jackson and other court personnel. All shared their careers and experiences with the students. |
