The Nassau County Courts Black History Committee and the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association celebrated Black History Month on February 21, 2020 at Nassau County Supreme Court in Mineola.
Hon. Norman St. George, Administrative Judge of the Tenth Judicial District, presided over the ceremony, with the theme “Our Journey to the Polls.”
Special honors were presented to Hon. Andrea Phoenix, Judge of the Nassau County District Court; H. Scottie Gourdine-Coads, Chair, Civic Engagement for the NAACP NYS Conference; and Troy M. Coley, NYS Court Officer.
Saxophonist Leyvon Walker played in the ceremonial courtroom and an art exhibit featuring The Long Island Black Artists Association was displayed in the court’s rotunda. The Nassau County Bar Association, the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association co-sponsored the event.
