On Friday, February 21, 2020, the New York City Civil Court hosted the Kings County Courts’ Black History Month Children’s Program. The Committee is chaired by Justice Deborah A. Dowling and Leah Richardson, President of the Tribune Society, and the program was chaired by Judges Robin K. Sheares and Lorna McAllister. More than 40 children, including students from P.S. 5, P.S. 41, and Big Apple Day Care Center participated in the program which was attended by many judges from the various Brooklyn courts and staff members.
Dramatic presentations given by the students focused on the history of African Americans achieving the right to vote. Because 2020 is a year in which people participate in the census, students also focused on the importance of African Americans being counted.
