In honor of Black History Month, the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission collaborated with M.S. 353, in Brooklyn, for a feature screening of “A Bridge to Justice: The Life of Franklin H. Williams” and discussion using the FHW PBS documentary educational curriculum. Two seventh-grade classes and an eighth-grade class all went from admitting they had never heard of Franklin H. Williams, to offering insightful takeaways on the importance of hidden figures who advocate for civil rights without the expectation that history will remember them.

After the screening, the discussion centered around advocacy and the impact that Ambassador Williams’ advocacy had in the cause for equal justice. In addition, the discussion focused on pathways to the legal profession, the need for diversity in the court system and in the judiciary, the importance of jury service, along with the various careers in the court system.
