New & Newsworthy:

Hispanic Heritage Month: UNIDOS

On September 15, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), in partnership with the Cervantes Society and Latino Court Officers Society, hosted a lunchtime event on Teams. The program featured a dynamic discussion among five Justices of the Appellate Division, First Department, who comprised an historic (the first) all-Latino/ Latina judicial panel in that court, in late 2021. Moderated masterfully by Judge Joanne Quinones, the Sept 15 conversation included the 2022 theme of Hispanic Heritage Month – UNIDOS: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation – and conveyed the passion, inspiration, humor, and connection among these “fierce and fabulous, first-five” jurists, as well as their commitment to a diverse and inclusive court.

First-ever oral arguments with an all-Latinx panel at the Appellate Division, 1st Dept (Dec 9,2021): Justice Manuel J. Mendez, Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels, Presiding Justice Rolando T. Acosta, Justice Lizbeth González and Justice Julio Rodriguez III.
