D&I Changemaker:
Hon. Norman St. George

By John Caher
Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications

In managing trial courts in 57 diverse counties, Judge Norman St. George – the son of a West Indies immigrant - brings his own diversity, and a perspective culled from his own lived experiences, to the table.

“I believe I'm able to relate in some way to everyone and anyone,” Judge St. George, the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for Courts Outside New York City, says in a new Diversity Dialogue podcast interview. “And I think that makes a difference when you are attempting to work with people and gain trust and respect. I can always find something in common.”

A walking testament to the American Dream, Judge St. George learned from his immigrant father that education and hard work are the keys to success. He also learned to dream, and to dream big, and to this day repeats a Robert F. Kennedy quote that has guided his professional approach: “You see things the way they are and ask why, and I dream things that never were and say, why not?”
