Charles Margett

Justice Charles Margett was born on September 5, 1907 in Brooklyn. He graduated from Eastern District High School in 1925 and St. Johns College School of Law in 1929. Admitted to the bar in 1930, he practiced law before joining the bench. Margett worked as counsel to both the Queens County Grand Jurors Association and the Queens County Medical Society. He was elected as president of the Queens Borough Public Library in January 1952. In 1955 he was named by Governor Harriman to the Temporary State Commission on the Courts.

In 1958, Margett was elected to the State Supreme Court for the Tenth Judicial District. In August 1970 he was named Administrative Judge for the Queens County Supreme Court. He was designated to the Appellate Division, Second Department by Governor Carey in August 1975. He retired from the bench in 1981.

Margett was a member of the Association of Supreme Court Justices of New York and served as president of the Queens County Bar Association and a trustee of the Long Island Jewish Hospital.

Following the death of his first wife, Margett married Doris Rosen in December 1981. He died on October 2, 1997 in Long Island, NY.
