Gloria Goldstein

Associate Justice: 1994-2007

Justice Gloria Goldstein earned a B.A. degree from Brooklyn College in 1953 and graduated first in her class from Brooklyn Law School in 1956, where she was also editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. Before joining the bench, she was a partner at Goldstein & Goldstein, P.C. from 1956 to 1978.

Goldstein was named a Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York in 1979 and became an Acting Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York in 1980. She served as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court for Kings County from 1981 to 1992 and as a Justice of the Supreme Court from 1993 to 1994. Goldstein was designated to the Appellate Division, Second Department in 1994. In 1995, Justice Goldstein issued a stay on the eviction of the Long Island Gynecological Services clinic after a Supreme Court judge ruled that the landlord's rules disallowing abortions in the building were reasonable. Following her retirement from the bench in 2007, she has worked in mediation and arbitration at JAMS, The Resolution Experts.

Her memberships include the Brooklyn Bar Association, Supreme Court Justices Association and the New York State Bar Association. She also served as chair of the New York State Ethics Commission for the Unified Court System from 2005 to 2007.
