Order in the court please. Has the jury reached a verdict?
Trial by a jury of one’s peers is fundamental to our democracy. 5 1/2 million Americans serve as jurors each year.
Each day jurors make decisions that affect people’s lives, property, and legal rights.
We all hope we’ll never need a jury of our peers, but somebody needs one every single day. Jurors ensure that the voice of the people is always present in our courts. Being a juror is the most tangible way for a citizen to participate directly in our democracy.
The New York State Court System reminds you to
answer that jury summons and serve with pride.
