Q:   How do I obtain a Certificate of Good Standing?
     
  A: Send a written request, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a check, payable to the State of New York, for $5.00 each to the mailing address listed above. These instructions (and additional information) can be found on our forms page:

Q:   I am interested in joining the New York State Bar without examination, through reciprocity with another jurisdiction. How do I begin this process?
     
  A:

This process must be initiated at the New York State Board of Law Examiners website, http://www.nybarexam.org

Click on the link for Admission on Motion/Reciprocity. This process has three steps, which all happen automatically once initiated at the above website. Estimated time for the entire process is between four and six months.

   

 

 

Q:   How do I transfer from the Appellate Division, Third Department to another Department?
     
  A: Send this office a letter or a fax and include:
   

a.  your written request for a transfer;
b.  the Department you wish to be transferred to; and
c.  your home and business addresses (one of which must be located in another department)

Q:   How do I change my name with the New York State Bar?
     
  A: In order to change your name with the New York State Bar, you must submit a written request, including your name, address, e-mail address, attorney registration number, your statement explaining the reason for the change and documentation thereof. Q:   How do I resign from the New York State Bar?
     
  A: In order to resign from the New York State Bar, you must submit your written request, including your current mailing address, whether or not you have been known by any other name, the jurisdictions to which you are admitted, whether or not you are or have been disciplined in any jurisdiction, whether or not you currently have any clients in New York State, your statement of your reason(s) for resigning from the New York State Bar, your statement addressing that you are aware that if you seek readmission that fee arrears may need to be repaid, and inclusion of your Secure Pass, if you were issued one.
