Hon. Michael Obus

The Hon. Michael J. Obus currently serves as the Administrative Judge for Criminal Matters in New York County. In that capacity he oversees the operations of the Criminal Term of the New York State Supreme Court as well as the Criminal Court of the City of New York, which handle all felony and misdemeanor prosecutions in the County. From February of 2008 to March of 2009, when administrative responsibility for these courts was joined, Judge Obus was the Administrative Judge of the Criminal Term of Supreme Court.

Judge Obus was appointed to the Criminal Court in 1986 and served as a Judge of that Court in the Bronx and in Manhattan until 1993, when he was designated an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court. Since that time, he has presided over a Criminal Term part handling a caseload of felony matters.

Upon graduating from the Columbia University School of Law in 1973, Judge Obus joined the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, NY, where he was Chief of the Criminal Appeals Bureau from 1979 to 1986. He received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in 1970.

Judge Obus is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he has served on the Committee on Criminal Advocacy, the Committee on Corrections and the Committee on Criminal Justice Operations.
